Fabulous Dorset Walking from Swanage (images top left clockwise to bottom left)...

Clavell Tower; Gad Cliffs; Swyre Head; Chapman's Pool; Durlston Country Park; Agglestone Rock; Old Harry Rocks; The Pinnacle; Winspit and Ballard Down

Walks directly from Swanage include:

  • Durlston Castle for great views, the 'Globe', cafe and educational centre
  • Anvil Point Lighthouse - just on beyond Durslton castle with access to the sea at Tilly Whim's caves
  • Old Harry Rocks - views over to Bournemouth and Christchurch from Ballard Down
  • Corfe Castle - walk the other way on Ballard Down for spectacular views of Corfe Castle and village

Further along the Jurassic coastline you can walk down to rocky beaches at Dancing Ledges, Winspit, Seacombe, Chapman's Poole, Kimmeridge Ledges, Warbarrow Bay, Lulworth Cove and many more.

If you're a mountain biker, there are plenty of remote bridle paths with stunning coastal scenery and a variety of trails inland combine to make a scenic and interesting ride.  Particular favourites are Rempstone & Wareham Forests and , Nine Barrow Down - an elongated hill forming the northern ridge of the Purbeck Hills.

For road bikers, there are plenty of narrow, windy and quiet roads across the Isle of Purbeck.

Finally, if you prefer four legs, Horseback Riding is a beautiful and very different way to experience the area.
